This is a baptismal gown which was possibly worn by Lewis Mortimer Spencer, father to Claudia Spencer Kirkpatrick and by his grandson, Elmer E. Kirkpatrick, Jr. It was also likely worn by Elmer Ellsworth Kirkpatrick, Jr. in a studio photograph when he was about one year of age. John E. Kirkpatrick likely was issued the sewing kit sometime during his Naval Academy years (1927-1931). The contents include brown, white and black thread, along with a safety pin, buttons, a small piece of cloth and another small sewing kit. The second kit is in a heavy paper casing with a picture of the Worth Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas, on the front. It is believed that John E. Kirkpatrick used these sewing kits throughout his travels for several years.
